The recent monsoon weather rendered much of the Forest too wet for walking and so, for our first walk of 2024, we headed to Southbourne for a walk over Hengistbury Head and Mudeford Spit.
As luck would have it, we chose a perfect winter’s day: cold, but brilliant sunshine and no wind.
The views as we approached the old coastguard station were staggeringly beautiful, as will be seen from the photos, and we spent some time just standing there, drinking in the views and thinking how lucky we are to be able to live in such a beautiful part of the world!
We continued down on to the Spit, marvelling how a glorified garden shed could cost so much money, even as we reflected on the beautiful sunsets, the sailing dinghies on the beach and the BBQs that would add up to a wonderful lifestyle.
Our return path took us past The Hiker cafe, or rather, into the cafe, where we enjoyed hot beverages and snacks. It’s not that we were all doing “dry January” but more about the lack of a liquor licence!
So a brisk morning’s walk, in good company, together with a healthy lunch (well, there was a salad garnish!) ensures that both our physical and mental health were well catered for!
Our next walk is scheduled for Tuesday 20th February, when we will be heading back to the coast, probably to Keyhaven.
