The October talk was all about The Duke Of Monmouth and was given by “Two Together”. The “Two” concerned are Jacqueline and Brian Sutton. Jacqueline is a retired Drama teacher, whilst Brian spent many years in amateur theatricals, property management and theatre management before retirement.
The talk was entitled “The Duke of Monmouth – how his head was turned and lost” and explored the rise and fall of the Duke of Monmouth in a fascinating and well researched presentation.
The story covered the Royal characters behind the Duke’s story, the Battle of Sedgemoor, its aftermath including the Bloody Assize, the trial of Alice Lisle of Ringwood and the Duke’s eventual execution.
The whole talk was enlivened and peppered with surprise facts and scenes of drama including, costume, wigs and various props. A very enjoyable and entertaining talk.
