On a beautiful summer’s morning, five of us met at Mudeford Quay to board the good ship Predator II to form part of a group going on a mackerel fishing trip. We made rapid progress out to the fishing grounds off Hengistbury Head, fishing rods were handed out and after some brief instruction, we were all soon enthusiastically dipping our rods.
First strike went to the President who, amidst great derision, tried to claim that it was as a result of his superior skill!
In the absence of further success, we relocated further out and, eventually, fish were caught. It’s fair to say, however, that our efforts did little to deplete the mackerel stocks in our local waters.
Returning to the Quay some time later, we shared out our catch and generally agreed it had been an excellent morning that would be well worth repeating, hopefully with a larger number of members sufficient, perhaps, for an exclusive booking.
Our thanks to John Brace for organising both the day out and the superb weather!
