The group gathered at Paul Moir’s house, where Barry Jolly gave us a fascinating presentation about Sizergh Castle near Kendal the family seat of the Strickland family.

In the past Barry had been a National Trust guide at the property and he has exercised his considerable skills as a historian to research the property, its artworks past and present and the Family. Time only allowed Barry to share a fraction of his knowledge on the subject, but it was plenty to stir the imagination and interest of all present.
Paul then gave us an update on the release of the 1950 USA census data and how to access it.
Our next meeting will be on Monday 23rd May, again at Paul’s, and the suggestion is that we each take along an ancestor, i.e. do a 10 minute introduction to one of the relatives on our family trees. The prospect of the potential characters involved, both saints and sinners, is enthralling.
