Paul Moir gave us a very useful introduction to the recently released 1921 census records which are now available through Find My Past, and the various means by which they could be accessed.
Ken Tullett followed this with a very detailed presentation on “How his grandfather escaped death by a few seconds”. It involved a disastrous day for the Royal Navy when the boilers on a new ship on sea trials exploded and many people were killed or injured. Through research into trade journals and the transcript of the necessary inquest Ken has been able to reconstruct his grandfathers movements on the fateful day. Contemporary photographs of the ship, Portsmouth Naval Dockyard, and the damaged boilers added impact to a very moving story.
Our next get together will be 10:00 Tuesday 29th March. Click here for more details.
