Seven keen genealogists gathered at Paul Moir’s and, fortified by excellent coffee and biscuits, shared information about some of our ancestors.
We heard about how an unknown grandfather was discovered, and a well known grandfather spent a long and successful life at sea. We were treated to stories of two naval brothers, one an upright fellow and the other of more dubious character and a young man who worked in a succession of dangerous industries only to die young.
We heard tales of naval battles and prizes being taken in the 17th Century, the tangled lives of a family of country gentry, and how a simple bookkeeper ended up part owner of the Ford Motor Company, a multi-millionaire, a US senator and lauded by F D Roosevelt.
Our next meeting is on Monday 25th July, again at Paul’s house. New members welcome – please contact Ken Tullett if you would like to come along.
